On May 27, 2014, Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, Director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University, as well as Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development and Health Policy and Management, spoke in Houston on "The Future of Global Energy and Sustainable Development." In this video clip, alumni Ed Carney gets an answer to his followup question and Professor Sachs expressed his appreciation for the city's reception.
Special thanks at this point to the alumni who helped this happened.
- Sayali Ketkar (MPH '07) obtained proclamations from Houston and Harris County which wowed Dr. Sachs.
- Filmmaker John Dean Alfone (CC '97) captured Dr. Sachs on video and helped run the event.
- George Worthington, Theresa Quintanilla, David Carr, Elena Tobin, Janny Chang, Maria Java Salapar, Eric Lukas, Crystal Heydari, Michael Andersson, Meaghan Casey also worked tirelessly on the event for months. Our success would have been impossible without each and every one of them.
Over 125 people packed the conference room and stayed for an hour to ask questions and have Professor Sachs sign his books, including The End of Poverty and Common Wealth.
